Sunday Best / Pastel / 25"x19"
In 1982 some friends commissioned me to paint portraits of their two daughters. I did a photo session with them and completed the portraits, but I was attracted to one of the photos I didn't use and three years later decided to make a painting of one of the girls for myself.

This painting won a First in Pastel Award in a Society of Western Artists Exhibit in Newark, California, a First in Pastel in the Fremont Art Association Annual Open Show, and an Honorable Mention at the Alameda County Fair. In addition, it was exhibited in 1986 in a Pastels USA national show and so became my first big winner in competitive exhibitions.
